But why did I get out the camera this morning?
We've been working on the garden (in our rental). We've pruned the tree in the front to let in light, turned over the soil, added nutrients, planted perennials and mulched. The faucet in the front doesn't work, so the plants don't get quite as much water as they'd like since we haul it out from the kitchen by hand.
We broke up the sad little clumps of daylillies and hosta - planting some in the front and saving the rest for the back. Although almost nothing came up last year (compacted soil, not enough light, plants too close together) we actually have more daylillies than we can use, and the separated plants are doing really well.
We turned over all of the soil in the back yard, and have scattered two bags of seed over it. We also put a little flower bed in the back, but we didn't put up any sort of dog barrier, or mulch. As you can see, this arrangement is working out quite nicely for Sam.
(The gray box in the back holds all of our extra daylillies.)
