Hippies

Don't let the military veteran, suburbanite accounting thing fool you...

my Grandma and Grandpa S are hippies!

April Showers

This morning, it was snowing. When we first moved here, we thought April might be like this - but we've been having some lovely warm days. The snow was hard to capture in a photograph, since there wasn't very much. You can see some streaks here.

This was sad, because I thought April snow showers would be funny to post about. Not to worry! By the time H and I were trudging back from yoga, I was wishing I had worn my snow boots.

So we were able to get a snowy picture of our front yard and car.

But tonight? You can see the light from the flash shine off the snowflakes, and our poor perennials covered in snow.

Best Pizza Around

S's relatives are fairly spread out in Southern Illinois, so we spend a fair bit of time driving when we visit. Still, we usually don't end up in traffic jams. This time, courtesy of the train (and tractor), we got to see the home of the best pizza around.

Surprise!

Our first stop was in Southern Illinois - Angie was hosting Easter on Saturday at 4 PM, barely enough time to make it even without infant stops. We drove as fast and stopped as little as we could, but it was nearing on 6 PM and S was talking about skipping it. Luckily, I never want to miss a party, and talked her out of it.

Which was a good thing, because it wasn't really Easter...But a surprise baby shower!
Great Grandpa got to hold her

There were games - diaper smelling

Bottle fillingand a relay race. (Tragically, no pictures exist of this event!)

Kendra and Angie even provided gluten free manicotti and cookies! The shower was wonderful. We were so touched - and H found her relatives to be very, very interesting.

Trip Home

We spent the last few weeks in Illinois visiting our families. H discovered that life is way more exciting outside of our apartment.

Here we are in the interesting, interesting airport.

With the exception of one 5 hour + car ride, H was a great traveler, and really enjoyed her first trip to the US!

Random Clothing in the Snow...

strikes again, sans snow.

Poutine!

A few weeks ago, Scott and Bill came to visit us. We took them out for poutine, a generally non-gourmet Quebec specialty consisting of gravy, cheese curds and a variety of toppings on french fries.
(here, a poutine featuring turkey and peas)

If you come, this fate will befall you as well. This is funny because while gluten free or vegetarian versions of this treat are available, we have yet to discover a simultaneous version, thus you would be forced to eat poutine while I sit across with innocent (enough) looking french fries.

Our other exciting ventures consisted of forced marches through the city and sitting around and holding H - we're such exciting hosts now that we're moms!
